Amused Moose National New Comic Award Final 2018: The Space @ Symposium Hall, Edinburgh, 2018
Maisie Adam: Hang-Fire: Gilded Balloon Teviot, Edinburgh, 2019
Maisie Adam deservedly won the Amused Moose National New Comic Award Final 2018 that I attended at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2018. The Yorkshire comedian had a distinctive personality and had a very engaging appeal. Adam is tall and also got lots of belly laughs out of the struggles of having elongated legs listing the reasons why being lanky can be awkward. Whatever the extra thing is that is needed to be a great comic; Adam produced it on the night and took the prestigious award. The industry and audience were delighted for her.
I saw Adam’s solo show Hang-Fire at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2019. The message of the show was to own one’s mistakes, admit them, acknowledge them, learn lessons and move on. She did this using some high-profile celebrity examples and then flawed the audience with an enormous surprise. The well-constructed was crammed full of cleverly written jokes and delivered with aplomb by the likeable and very quick-witted comedian. For me, Adams is certainly on comedian to watch and a very enjoyable hour was had by the audience.
