Always Be Comedy (2 shows): The Tommyfield pub, Kennington, London, 2019
Jake Lambert: Never Mak The Same Mistak Twice: Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, 2019
I saw Jake Lambert compere three shows for Always Be Comedy in March and May 2018. Rising comedy star Lambert was very funny, engaging and had good stage personality. Apart from introducing the acts, he was relaxed and confident on stage chatting to the audience (including me) easily extracting big laughs from funny situations. I also saw Lambert again at The Comedy Store in April 2018 where his wordplay was ingenious and delivered with a calm and dry sense of humour.
I also watched Lambert perform his Edinburgh preview show at Always Be Comedy in July 2018. I was celebrating my imminent birthday, had kept an eye on Lambert’s performances all year that had impressed me and was looking forward to more of his amiable style of comedy. Subjects in his show included an ability to remember the exact date he first tasted specific food for the first time and his one-eyed cat. He has an innocence on stage that is endearing so that when he delivers a punchline from a story of a ridiculous situation the audience seem to warm to him more and it is all the funnier.
In August 2018, I saw Lambert’s full solo show Little Lost Lad at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival playing to a packed audience and then again in September 2018 where he effortlessly compered another Always Be Comedy showcase. December 2018 saw him perform more new written material of which the jokes and stories were as ever extremely sharp and quick-witted.
Lambert return in July 2019 with his new preview Edinburgh show. What was particularly impressive to see was the sheer number of quality jokes packed into each bit of the story and the upbeat ending.
I saw the show Never Mak The Same Mistak Twice at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2019. He was warm and friendly with the audience and the show was based upon moving in with his girlfriend and deciding that they don’t want children. The set began with a story about visiting a cowboy ranch that featured a lot of great, funny, one-liner and never let up the pace. Delivered with extreme charm, this was a very enjoyable show.
In September 2019, Lambert compered an Always Be Comedy showcase and to date, it has been a real joy watching Lambert develop into a great comedian.
