Lily Phillips was immensely likeable on stage when I saw her at Always Be Comedy in May 2018. She was very engaging and had some brilliant one-liners and stories that entertained the crowd.
I was delighted that she was part of a double bill (along with Stephen Trumble) for Hoo-Ha! at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2018. Phillips’ quiet irony was balanced perfectly with Trumble’s high energy as the two comedians each delivered half hour sets in one show. Phillips tone matches that of her presence: succinct, calm and clear but always with an edge of sarcasm that was sometimes under-appreciated by the audience. Phillips wants the audience to come to her and her skill is the ability to gather the agreement and backing of the audience while still retaining her cool demeanour and being just that little bit obscene.
I was very pleased to see Phillips again on the bill for The Comedy Reserve at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2019 and then again at Always Be Comedy in September 2019. The rising star was fearless with the audiences and her sassy attitude was inspired talking about all things feminine. Phillips made me laugh a lot and was a very funny lady who I wish every success and look forward to seeing her again soon.
