Jon Holmes: Rock Star Babylon: Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, 2009

Jon Holmes is one of the original cast members of the long running BBC radio series The Now Show.  The talented ensemble featured Steve Punt, Hugh Dennis, Emma Kennedy, Laura Shavin and Mitch Benn plus comedy guests.  Between 2004 and 2010, I attended a few show recordings at The BBC Radio Theatre of the enjoyable and satirical swipe at the week’s news. The diminutive Holmes was always an audience favourite with his weekly rants about anything that annoyed him that week.   In 2006, I saw The Now Show Live when it appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Three years later, Holmes had devised a book and a show which he took to the Edinburgh Fringe call Rock Star Babylon.  This involved true or fictitious rock star wrongdoings involving everything from Status Quo’s run-in with a kangaroo to Bob Dylan awkward meeting with a plumber.  This was a very entertaining show from an extremely likeable performer.
