Comedian Lee Hurst was a resident team captain on the comedy sports TV quiz They Think It’s All Over when I went to watch it being recorded at BBC TV Centre in London in 1996. Hurst was a very quick-witted team captain trying to outplay the rest of opposing team with wisecracks and putdowns and proved to be very popular with the audience. In 2000, Hurst decided to semi-retire and concentrate on running his comedy venue, the Backyard Comedy Club in London, where he acts as resident host.
In November 2023, Hurst headlined the Whole Lotta Comedy showcase that I watched at the Wimbledon Studio in London in November 2023. Describing his life, career, health issues and parenthood in a 45-minute set was a joy to watch. It was a comedy masterclass; his delivery of the joke or punchline was so good and hysterical to watch.
