BERNARD MANNING

Bernard Manning: The Pagoda Nightclub, Carlisle, 1987

Bernard Manning came onto the stage at a nightclub in Carlisle that I went to in 1987.  It was late in the evening and his first words were boasting about his wealth before launching into a tirade of nasty, racist, filthy one-liners. This was a reminiscent from his appearance on the 1970s TV show The Comedians.  It was not long (five minutes) before the Saturday night drunken and raucous crowd booed him off stage.
