NORMAN PACE

Play: Breakfast with Jonny Wilkinson: Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, 2006

In one of the first years that I went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I went to see the play Breakfast with Jonny Wilkinson.  Riding on the success of An Evening with Gary Lineker, the writer Chris England, he attempted to repeat the sporting formula using Jonny Wilkinson’s 2003 Rugby World Cup success as a basis for comedy.  Set in a rugby club bar and changing rooms, the play stars Norman Pace (one half of eighties TV comedy duo Hale and Pace) played Dave, the chairman of a rugby club under threat of losing his position to a brash Australian Matt, played by Michael Beckley.  The play also starred Beth Cordingly and Kevin Wathen and rugby fans would be amused by the play.
