Hoo-Ha!: Just The Tonic at The Caves, Edinburgh, 2018
Stephen Trumble appeared at Birdies free comedy night that I attended in London in 2017. He was wild, unpredictable, loud, brash and extremely funny with the audience in what seemed like a whirlwind of a performance.
The comedian deservedly won the People’s Champion Award at the Amused Moose National New Comic Award Final 2018 that I attended at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2018. His short set was frenetic and lunatic as he screamed at the audience running around the stage and up and down the aisles. He had genuine good jokes and stories and with the force of a whirlwind he was gone.
I was genuinely excited to see that the chaotic Trumble was partnered alongside Lily Phillips in their show Hoo-Ha. Trumble really came into his own in his half hour set which alongside gags about him looking like a hobbit and his sex life featured a routine about coming off anti-depressants: not exactly great comic material but expertly told with very humorous insights. Trumble’s anarchic delivery contrasted perfectly with underwhelmed yet charming Phillips and he proved that he is a comedic force of nature.
