Comedian Chloe Petts was the first act at an Always Be Comedy showcase in September 2019. Wearing a bobble hat, glasses, and a constant grin, she strolled onto the stage and the extremely confident and honest comic discussed her sexuality and the issue why she was constantly mistaken for a man. There was a lot of very funny material in her set and her crowd work was very impressive. She proved to be a big hit.
Petts played Always Be Comedy Online in April 2021. She was lively and extremely funny talking about her lockdown experience and had brilliant interactions with the audience. She was naturally funny and entertained the lively online crowd.
I saw Petts again play a full hour of work-progress material for her solo show Transience at The Museum of Comedy as part of the Camden Fringe in August 2021. The show focussed on the incapability to enjoy anything because of an approaching awareness of disaster. A tough subject to talk about but tackled with such endearing warmth that the audience could not fail to enjoy the comedian and the show. Covering relevant subjects including being the man she always wanted to be, televised sport and unbearable snoring, the crowd easily related to the comedian which made watching her all the funnier. Before the show, she recognised me in the bar and said hello. I introduced my two mates and when she began her set, we became part of the show and were included in the darts routine. Petts was an exceptionally confident performer effortlessly interacting with the audience and delivering sharp and extremely funny stories. Her delivery was perfect, and she was born to be a comedian.
It was a delight to see her supporting Ed Gamble on his tour Electric at The Sands Centre, Carlisle in April 2022. Brilliant with an audience, she delivered wonderful routines and stories to warm the audience up for the main act.
In August 2022, I watched Petts perform her brilliant solo Transience, as part of the Edinburgh Fringe and the comedian was also a guest for the Edinburgh Allstars delivering a ten-minute set. On both occasions, her confidence, quick-wittedness, and control of an audience knew no bounds and she was hysterically funny.
Petts performed material for a brand-new show in October 2022 at The Camden Comedy Club in London. Her confidence on stage was off the scale and her banter with the audience was wonderful to watch.
I watched Petts’ new work-in-progress show If You Can’t Say Anything Nice at the Brighton Fringe in May 2023. One of the greatest breakthrough comedians of recent years, her confidence on stage and the involvement of me in her set sitting in the front row, was consistently brilliant and absolutely hilarious.
I watched the comedian’s new solo show, Now You See Me, Now You Don’t, at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2024. Sitting in the front row waiting for the show to start, it was a delight to see Petts waving at me from the wings before she went on stage. The show itself featured subjects ranging from school bullies to online trolls all delivered with her unique laddish trademark humour.
Petts was a guest for Chris Ramsey and Friends at the Connexin Arena for the Hull Comedy Festival that I watched in November 2024. As ever, fearless and confident on stage with superb laugh-out-loud stories, the comedian was a total delight to watch.
Petts is a rising comedy star who seems incapable of delivering a bad performance, and I look forward to seeing again soon.
