Always Be Comedy: The Tommyfield pub, Kennington, London, 2019

Joseph Morpurgo is a comedy improviser who I saw at Always Be Comedy in 2017.  His set involved a recreation of the classic Frankenstein complete with authentic theatrical makeup and ragged clothing.  The set was very clever brimming with comic ideas and the audience appreciated the effort in making them laugh.

Morpurgo bust onto the stage of Always Be Comedy in November 2019 after the biggest build up for a while that I have seen for a comedian.  Using PowerPoint slides and audio, he whipped the audience up into a frenzy before he appeared and when he did eventually arrive continued to use the PowerPoint to generate weird and wonderful comic ideas.  One such idea featuring a off-kilter game show from the fifties that never saw the light of day was brought back to life with the audience guessing who was married to who.  His ideas were energetic and wild with very different styles surprising the audience who loved his bizarre sense of the absurd.
