Mark Dolan is an extremely witty, charming comedian and compere. Because of this he can practically get away with saying just about anything on stage. I saw him play twenty-minute sets at the Laugh Till It Hurts Comedy Gala in London in 2013 and the Best of The Fest at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2014. But it was at Always Be Comedy in London in 2016 where I was sitting in the front row and he started chatting to me comparing my name to others in the room. He then asked the audience if they knew who I was and most recognised my loud laugh. He then ridiculed me and moved onto his set. This got a massive laugh from the audience and me.
Dolan compered one of the three shows that I saw at The Big Funny Fest at Richmond in June 2019. He is at his best when he is ridiculing and embarrassing an unfortunate member of the audience with the joke always on him. At this show, it was my turn for sitting in the front row of the big top audience alone. I was being so loud enjoying myself that the comments he gave were delivered with great warmth and charm (which is his trademark) that they generated big laughs.
I was delighted to see Dolan headline the Live @ Limehouse 4 comedy showcase performing new and tested material in a twenty-minute set. I met him again after the show and praised him for being a great compere and talented comedian.
