If the definition of a comedian is a man who tells jokes to make an audience laugh the Jimmy Carr is the quintessential comic. Certainly, one of his many yearly tour shows is called Jimmy Carr: Telling Jokes.  He tells lots of jokes on stage where there is no limit.  Carr does tell a joke very well as I have witnessed on four occasions to date that I have seen him live.  He is a great constructor of a gag and has wonderfully offensive, withering and downright funny punchlines.

At every show I have been to, Carr has had to deal with hecklers with effortless ease.  Indeed, the shows become memorable when he is interrupted, sending up latecomers or anyone in the crowd using a mobile phone like any premier comedian.

It’s a pleasure to watch Carr deliver joke after joke and if this is all you want from a comedy show, which most do, then go ahead and enjoy.

  1. Several years ago Jimmy got on the Jubilee line and sat opposite me. Unless I know them, I don’t like bothering them. Jimmy clearly realised I knew who he was. When he got out at St John’s Wood, he said “Enjoy the rest of your day”. I think that was because he respected me for not bothering him, and thought that was a very polite way of him saying thank you.
