TIM MINCHIN

After Hours Comedy: Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, 2008
The Last Leg (TV recording): Television Centre, London, 2023

I saw Australian comedy musician Tim Minchin at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2008 as a guest for After Hours Comedy.  The three songs he played on the piano were funny, charming, filthy and charismatic – one song he delivered about the art of swearing was particularly inspired.  Appearing shoeless with thin lean denims and a shock of mad scientist’s hair, Minchin rattled through the lyrics like a man possessed.    Minchin was an extremely funny and compelling performer.

In 2023, I watched a TV recording of very popular The Last Leg with Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker.  Minchin was a guest and since the time I saw him in Edinburgh in 2008, he has written two London theatre musical adaptions of Matilda and Groundhog Day which have both been big hits.  As well as being a very entertaining and humorous guest, the talented comedian performed a song from Groundhog Day on the piano, which the audience loved.
