RICK SHAPIRO

Late ‘n’ Live: Gilded Balloon Teviot, Edinburgh, 2008

New York wild comedian Rick Shapiro was a guest at Late ‘n’ Live: the legendary late-night showcase at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe of which I saw in 2008.  For his twenty-minutes on stage, Shapiro was loud, direct and in-your face funny and in style of fellow commentator Bill Hicks. He possessed a great rage that he used to brilliant comic and his views on drugs and sex were crudely inspired and lucid.  In 2013, Shapiro was sadly diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and looking back, I was lucky to have caught the innovative comedian’s live act when I did.
