I have seen comedian Tom Deacon perform a number of times over the last few years. Eaxh time, Deacon has delivered carefully crafted set-ups, unexpected and delightful punchlines with his confident sparkling delivery.

I saw him perform at the Edinburgh Fringe on a bill for the Best of the Fest in 2011 and he also played Always Be Comedy in London in 2017 where the audience really warmed to his charm and his on-stage delivery.

Deacon compered the Always Be Comedy showcase four times in 2018: once in March, twice in September, once in November 2018 and again in March and October 2019.

On every occasion, Deacon was an instant hit with the audience effortlessly creating funny routines from chatting with the crowd.  The set pieces he also delivered were tight, sharp and very funny. He can pick a member of the audience and run with whatever is spoken about creating comedy as he goes.  It was a rare gift to see the meandering comedian easily diverted from what he is talking about or creating funny routine from one word or sentence.

The comedian returned in November 2020 when he was the first act to appear at Collywobblers Comedy Lockdown V2. He described his experiences of living with his girlfriend and being a dad during the lockdown which were told with such wit and innocence that it was great to see him again.

He returned to live stand-up with a new material set for Always Be Comedy in March 2022.  Featuring a brilliant routine involving attending yoga classes, Deacon was in total command of the stage and gave a wonderful performance.

Deacon has a very amiable presence; he was an extremely easy-going host for the show and a pleasure to watch his compering skills and comedy.
