Always Be Comedy: The Tommyfield pub, Kennington, London, 2017
Nick Helm’s Xmas F*ck Fest 3: Pleasance Theatre, Islington, London, 2017
To date, I have watched Pat Cahill perform twice. At Always Be Comedy in 2017, he was introduced by MC James Gill as the first comedian ever to play the club. He raced onto the stage full of boundless manic energy previewing his Edinburgh show The Fisherman by recounting daft stories and singing very catchy tunes. Cahill was particularly good at taking entirely mundane stories into improbable plot jumps, and making them seem entirely plausible. Furthermore, he has a skill for speeding through such a plot-line in a couple of sentences. The sheer joy and silliness in Cahill’s material is irresistibly funny to the audience and he was a big hit.
I saw him again later in the year as a guest at Nick Helm’s charity show where he delivered more joyful nonsense highlighting the absurdities in life.
