Ricky Gervais: Science: Work in Progress: Bloomsbury Theatre, London, 2009
To date, I have seen Ricky Gervais performed live twice. Once for his show Politics at The Hammersmith Apollo, London in 2005 and the other for Science which was at the work-in-progress stage at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London in 2009. Gervais on stage is like watching a naughty boy saying something so offensive or disgusting and getting away with it because of who he is – one of the most popular comics in the country,
In Politics, subjects up for discussion included bizarrely the actress Thora Hird, being mistaken for Johnny Vegas. The tour was a sensational sell-out, a massive critical success and toured the length and breadth of Great Britain.
In Science, Gervais tackled such subjects as the deconstruction of the Noah’s Ark myth with hilarious effect. Again, the show proved a big hit with audiences and although his stand up shows rarely talk about the subject titles, the home grown comedy star and creator of The Office, Extras proved his worth on stage as well.
