MATT LUCAS

Shooting Stars (TV Recording): BBC TV Centre, London, 1997
The Fast Show / Shooting Stars Live: Hammersmith Apollo, London, 1998

I saw comedian and actor Matt Lucas at the BBC TV Centre in London in 1997.  His mega-comedy hit with his co-star David Walliams, Little Britain was yet to happen, and Lucas appeared as his creation George Dawes, the nappy wearing baby drummer and score master on the cult manic team-based TV quiz Shooting Stars hosted by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.  Every announcement featured an enormous banging of his drum and during the recording Lucas was invited to sing a theme song in the style of his choice for the teams to guess.  He sang the theme from children’s TV classic Rent-A-Ghost and had to do several takes from corpsing as a result of me laughing at him from the front row of the audience.  Lucas played the character again when I saw The Fast Show / Shooting Stars Live at the Hammersmith Apollo in London in 1998.
