Joan Rivers Live: Opera House, Manchester, 2005
Joan Rivers: Work in Progress by a Life in Progress: Udderbelly’s Pasture, Bristo Square, Edinburgh, 2008
Joan Rivers was an American institution. The fast-taking, wise cracking American comedian played Manchester Opera House in 2005 and as I sat in the audience, she did not disappoint firing cutting jibes at her celebrity friends and the packed audience. She thrashed around the stage barking explicit and extremely funny well written stories about her extraordinary full life.
Three years later in 2008, Rivers played the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and delivered a part-confessional, part-performance comedy-drama. The show was based on her wild celebrity life and movingly revealed a vulnerability behind her public facade.
Fearlessly, hysterically funny and unforgettable, I was very grateful to have seen the US comedy icon as she sadly passed away in 2014.
