Born in Denmark, Sandi Toksvig is an extremely witty, intelligent and clever comedian. She has presented and appeared in many British television comedy panel shows and on radio she is probably best known as chair of Radio 4’s News Quiz from 2006 t 2015 which I saw recorded several times between 2008 and 2010 at the BBC Radio Theatre in London,
I went to see Toksvig star in Christmas Cracker, a ten-day run of a Christmas cabaret show created by Toksvig and Jude Kelly at the Royal Festival Hall in London featuring an array of guest stars from the worlds of music, magic and comedy, including the legendary Ronnie Corbett. The show was a jubilant combination of comedy and music. It featured Christmas sing-a-longs, a re-working of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and a specially appointed Christmas anthem written by Dillie Keane (from the musical comedy group Fascinating Aida).
I also saw Toksvig in her solo show My Valentine. She performed an extremely witty afternoon of stand-up, stories and fascinating facts based her novel Valentine Grey. She was extremely warm and very quick with the audience who were enchanted by her wordplay and detailed, fascinating and humorous stories.
Toksvig was an inspired and exceptionally humorous guest at a live TV recording of The Last Leg at Elstree Studios, London in January 2022 and then the superb host for a live TV recording of QI at the TV Centre in London in March 2023. Her brilliant quips in response to news stories of the week showed what an entertaining and funny comedian and writer that she is.
