Hailing from Hull, comedian and one half of the sketch group The Delightful Sausage (together with Chris Cantrill), Amy Gledhill made a welcome guest host for the Always Be Comedy showcase that I watched in May 2022. She was bright, quick-witted, enthusiastic, and lively as she delivered entertaining anecdotes warming up the audience for the main acts.
I watched Gledhill’s tour show The Girl Before The Girl You Marry at the Soho Theatre in April 2023, the bubbly energetic Northern comedian was a joy to watch as she delivered an uplifting show about buoyancy, dancing, love and relationships. She really was a wonderful tonic who was in total command of the room and her audience with uplifting and hysterically funny stories and jokes.
I can highly recommend Gledhill’s joint podcast, Northern News (https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/northern-news/id1673261169) with comedian Ian Smith. The premise is two Northerns living in London who miss the North and base the comedy on Northern news of the week. The podcast makes me think of home, the news articles can be bizarre and are made so funny presented by two of the UKs current best comedians. I was delighted to attend the London Podcast Festival in September 2023 and watch a recording live.
She delivered a superb routine about dating for Always Be Comedy in London in March 2024, and in August 2024, I watched her acclaimed solo show, Make Me Look Fit On The Poster at the Edinburgh Fringe. The show revolved around two relatable and embarrassing topics: one is her attendance at Go Ape with the crashed hopes of impressing a man; while the other involved vomiting at a restaurant. Her enthusiasm and determination to make an audience laugh is a joy to watch, and the show deservedly won Best Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. I was so impressed, that I saw it again at The Soho Theatre, London in September 2024.
Gledhill is one of the best comedians working in the UK at present and I look forward to seeing her again soon.
