The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash is a 1978 film written by and starring Eric Idle and Neil Innes. A brilliant comic spoof of Beatlemania, I watched the film on a Sunday morning at the Bristol Slapstick Festival in February 2023 which featured a pre-screen interview from Jem Roberts, comedy historian and author of the book Fab Fools, with John Halsey who plays the band’s drummer in the film.
Roberts was also a guest at Monty Python’s Book Shambles at the Bristol Old Vic that I saw in February 2023. Robin Ince chaired a conversation about the classic group’s written books and Roberts gave an enthusiastic contribution.
