Joe Kent Walters is Frankie Munroe Dead!!!(Good Fun Time): Soho Theatre, London, 2025
Occasionally, a new comedy act comes along and whatever the magic ingredient is, delivers, with audience relentless belly aching laughter. Deserving to win the BBC New Comedy Award in 2023, Joe Kent-Walters presented his show An Evening with Frankie Munroe, at the Hull Comedy Festival. Frankie Monroe is the owner and resident MC at The Misty Moon Social Club (a Working Men’s club in Rotherham that is also a portal to hell). Think a cross between Vic Reeves, Johnny Vegas and The Mighty Boosh and this original extraordinary character is born. A phenomenally funny hour with highlights included a singalong about touching Frankie’s Trowel! Absolutely fearless with an audience and it was an honour to be Frankie’s stooge for the night. I could not stop laughing all evening and the crowd deservedly gave the act a standing ovation.
I watched the act again at the Leicester Comedy Festival in February 2024. Again, Walters alter-ego was very impressive effortlessly making the packed audience belly-laugh. The show deservedly was nominated for Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival Awards 2024, and I predict Frankie Munroe to be the next great comedy star.
I saw the impressive act again at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2024. Recommending Frankie Munroe to two women in the queue, they smiled and let me know that one was Joe’s mum and the other was his manager. The astonishing show was hysterically funny and extremely clever. I was delighted for his success which was culminated in winning the Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. I think he is destined for greatness.
I watched Walter’s new solo show, Joe-Kent Walters is Frankie Munroe: Dead!!! (Good Fun Time) at the Soho Theatre in London in December 2025. The story continued with ‘Yorkshire’s Biggest Bastard’, Frankie having been dragged to hell, via his working men’s club, gaining a job as Entertainment’s Officer for the Damned. More old-school entertainment playing mad games, singing mad songs, and doing his demented ventriloquism act in a very surreal atmosphere made for another hour of wonderful, bizarre entertainment. Walters and character Frankie Munroe are destined for greatness.
