Always Be Comedy: The Tommyfield pub, Kennington, London, 2018
Dave’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards Gala: Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, 2019
I saw Spencer Brown perform at Always Be Comedy in March 2018. On stage Brown adopted a fabricated and blatantly tacky yet deliberate persona. Through all his Englishness, he has a artificial style, delivering each punchline with all the wild liveliness he can gather. In his routines, he is always the agitated idiot stupidly stumbling into circumstances with heaps of enthusiasm and no common sense. This boundless energy rubbed off onto the audience who found him very funny especially when he played his guitar and sang a brilliantly constructed song to finish his polished set.
In 2019, Brown was a guest act at Dave’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards Gala at the Pleasance Courtyard as part of the Edinburgh Fringe. Most of his set was performed wearing giant googly eyes which delighted the audience who memorably remembered the extraordinary and original comedian.
