Nicole Harris: No Brainer: Laughing Horse @ The Temple Bar, Brighton, 2022
Nicole Harris is a London based act who won Jewish Comedian of The Year in 2016. I saw her perform five minutes of sparky, witty comedy involving her experiences of growing up at Birdies Comedy free showcase in London when I went along in 2017.
The comedian was extremely forthright and consistently funny when I saw her play Birdies free comedy night in March 2019. She had no fear on stage as she confidently chatted and yelled directly at unfortunate audience members (including me – I was laughing so hard at her, she thought I was having a heart attack!), asking direct question intent and succeeding on getting laughs. She did a very impressive five minutes.
I was really pleased to see Harris’ solo show No Brainer at the Brighton Fringe in May 2022. In it, she proved how good she was at live comedy by giving the impression that she did not know what was going to happen next. The unpredictability combined with fearless audience banter about anything that came to mind. It was a great hour and her eccentric comic panache and finely tuned verbal and visual gags were a joy to hear and watch.
Harris is an exceptionally funny comedian and I look forward to seeing her again soon.
