CARLY SMALLMAN

Always Be Comedy: The Tommyfield pub, Kennington, London, 2019

Carly Smallman headlined Always Be Comedy in March 2019. The very chirpy, enthusiastic comedian easily warmed to the audience with stories and songs. Before Smallman appeared on stage, I was invited up by the compere James Gill to badly sing a song to warm up the crowd. This particular week I took two requests – one was The Prodigy’s Firestarter and the other was Big Spender which I interpreted as Sinatra’s New York New York. The audience loved this and continued in the same vein when Smallman finished her set admitting being a self-confessed fan of Bon Jovi, belting out one hundred times better than I ever could do Livin’ On A Prayer.
