It’ll Be Alright on The Night’s 50 Years of ITV (TV Recording): ITV Studios. Southbank, London, 2005
I was lucky enough to see the TV recording of the long running ITV show with the specific purpose of showing behind the scenes bloopers from film and TV. The show was presented for many years by Denis Norden from 1977 until his retirement in 2006 when Griff Rhys Jones took over presenting duties and latterly David Walliams provided voice over only. In its heyday, Norden helped to make the programme a smash hit for ITV and he was the perfect genial host with his famous clipboard prop.
Norden had been a radio comedy scriptwriter for many years beginning during the second world war and co-wrote the successful BBC Radio comedy programme Take It From Here! With Frank Muir. Norden and Muir remained associated for more than 50 years. Norden died aged 96 in 2018 and it was an absolute pleasure to be at the TV recording of a great TV show hosted by a legendary comic presenter celebrating 50 years of ITV.
